Horizontal Arm/Neck Holes a.k.a Huge Big Buttonholes!

You would think that having knitted numerous horizontal openings in my Spoilt For Choice, Foliage Wrap and Creep garments I would have found the perfect method, but unfortunately not!

There are some great methods out there for neat, firm buttonholes (e.g. tulip buttonhole). But when stretch is an important factor for the versatility of the garment, and also keeping things simple so patterns are easy to knit, I have stuck to a basic two row method for Spoilt for Choice and one row method for Creep. In Foliage Wrap there are instructions for both!

Unfortunately the ends of the openings can sometimes appear untidy so my advice is to:

  • give the work a good tug in the corners just after they have been worked
  • pick up any loose looking yarn and knit in with an adjacent stitch.

You just have to show those holes who is boss!
