Spoilt For Choice

I like to try garments in different ways and it is often surprising what works upside down and back to front. As I discovered, this however is not everyone’s cup of tea. The comment was made, on seeing a garment I had knitted worn in an “unconventional” way (head through sleeve), that no normal person would wear it that way. Well that got me thinking… and I had to design something that had so many arm/neck holes that you would be spoilt for choice.
Spoilt for Choice

It is funny sometimes where inspiration comes from.

Anne, don’t get upset by such comments. There are so many garments that are widely admired on Ravelry but I would never understand why:). So the beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, as they say. I especially like the skirt verion, would have never come upon this! Good luck with your designs!

Hi Anna, Thank you. I wasn’t upset by the comment, just thought it was quite funny and pleased that it got the creative juices flowing :)

    • http://centidees.canalblog.com Nadine

I love the skirt version too. How original and special. I bet everyone will be jealous when they see it. I am knitting it in Bamboo, nice and soft, it is not the right size needle either but what the hell, I’ll see what comes out of it.

      • http://stitchmana.com Anne Thompson

Hi Nadine, I think Bamboo will be great for this. Can’t wait to see it!

  • Karin

What a great project, thank you Anna, you are the best :-)
    Great regards from Germany.

    • Karin

Oh, Anne of course, excuse me.

    • http://stitchmana.com Anne Thompson

Hi Karin, thank you! I hope you enjoy knitting it :)

  • http://centidees.canalblog.com Nadine

    I think it’s fabulous!

  • nommyzmommy

LOL! “Normal”? Bah. Humbug. “Normal” is a setting on your washing machine. Gotta make me one of these ornery critters!

    • http://stitchmana.com Anne Thompson

      Haha, exactly!

  • Caressa

Anne this garment is AMAZING!!! I fell in love with a gorgeous yarn but have been casting on & frogging projects…maybe I want to make a shrug, no I want a scarf, no maybe a skirt. With your pattern I can wear whatever my capricious brain can imagine:) Thanks so much for sharing!

    • http://stitchmana.com Anne Thompson

Hi Caressa, I know what it is like to keep casting on and frogging! Glad this garment can solve your problem! :)

  • Sarah

Very interesting pattern. It’s not something that I woudl normally wear, but I want to try to knit it and see how it looks on me. I love the idea of knitting one garment/accessory and being able to wear it in so many different ways!

    • http://stitchmana.com Anne Thompson

Thank you Sarah, it is quite an easy knit :)

  • Jo

I am recent convert to knitting and do like to try something different. I love assymetric shapes and adore your patterns. More please!

    • http://stitchmana.com Anne Thompson

Hi Jo, I have always been drawn to assymetric shapes too and hopefully there will be more patterns coming!

  • Bonnie

    Dear Anne:

You rock! I love your designs! I am a big fan of wearing a garment more than one way. Thank you for sharing. Look forward to more!

    • http://stitchmana.com Anne Thompson

Thank you Bonnie, glad to have another alternative wearer.

  • Kori

Wow, that is ridiculous how awesome it is. I love stuff that can be worn in myriad ways and I think this is really creative. I am honestly jealous of the imagination and will definitely be saving this pattern for when I have the yarn and the time!

    • http://stitchmana.com Anne Thompson

Thanks Kori, simple things usually do the most. :)

  • Mad

AWSUM! Gotta make me one of these! =^..^=

This is great!! Finally got the correct info…

  • http://pixelatedmushroom.blogspot.com/ Nys

Completely inspired by garments constructed in usual ways through layering and folding etc This and the other projects you’ve chosen to show on ravelry have really got me thrilled tonight – will be following along to see what new patterns appear ^_^ thanks!

  • http://pixelatedmushroom.blogspot.com/ Nys

oh and you’re using of Bendigo Woollen Mills wool for many projects – how exciting! I yarn I can actually get hold of for once – thanks again

    • http://stitchmana.com Anne Thompson

Yes, I’ve found the Bendigo yarn good, particularly because it comes in such big skeins! and is not too expensive :)

  • Jenny Housley

This garment totally fascinates me. Not what I would normally knit but I want to see how it turns out. It looks fabulous in the photos and the colour is nice and dramatic

  • Loricohen

I have been knitting your Spoilt For Choice for a few weeks intending to give it to my daughter. The whole time, I was wondering if it was going to be fabulous or disastrous. Well, she absolutely loves it and has come up with so many great ways to wear it. Your pattern was great. I’ve also made your Foliage Wrap and that looks great on her. I look forward to making more of your designs!

    • http://stitchmana.com Anne Thompson

I’m so pleased you enjoyed both patterns. The first time I made Spoilt For Choice I wondered that same thing!

  • Lynnea

Can’t wait to knit this…may have to visit the yarn store tomorrow!

    • http://stitchmana.com Anne Thompson

That’s great! I’ll be interested to see what yarn you choose :)

  • http://www.wolvarken.web-log.nl/ Mirjam

I love this pattern! It’s fabulous and (I think) easy to knit ifyou don’t have much experience like me in reading english patterns. I have already found the right material in my stash and I translated the pattern. So I’ll start right away!
I hope you will be posting more patterns! :)

    With regards,
    Mirjam

    • http://stitchmana.com Anne Thompson

Hi Mirjam, What language have you translated the pattern to? I think you should find it easy but let me know if you have any problems. Glad you like it and yes I will be posting more patterns :)

      • Mirjam

        Hi Anne,
I translated it into Dutch. And you were right. It was easy to translate except for the cable method. But I found a video on Youtube so that problem is also solved!
I’m allready looking forward for new patterns! :)

  • Xihousesoap

Absolutely brilliant! Anne, thank you for being such a good artist and for your generosity!

    • http://stitchmana.com Anne Thompson

So glad you like it :)

  • http://www.moncoincreatif.canalblog.com Armelle

I love your style, thank you for sharing your creativity. I would like to make in cotton What do you think, I’m afraid that this becomes a mop lol. Is it the 720 meters? Thank you for your reply and excuse my English, I am French!

    • http://stitchmana.com Anne Thompson

Hi Armelle, I think cotton would be good and hopefully will not end up like a mop! hehe. I made one in silk and that was successful. I used about 720meters but you may want to have a little more than that as you will be using different yarn :)
