Ladybug & Silvereye = Happy Roses
I long for the day when I am in control of my garden again, rather than the other way around. This is not going to happen any time soon though as knitting and sewing and well just about everything else takes priority. so I get by with a little help from my friends when it comes to aphid control

And sometimes with neglect comes a surprise …
Updates and Sewing with a Japanese Slant
I have had to cut down my knitting time quite drastically lately, due to frozen shoulders (adhesive capsulitis). It is a condition that seems to eventually resolve itself but it can take months or even years in some cases! I have been able to sew though and have enjoyed trying out some Japanese pattern books. They are in Japanese but have very easy to understand diagrams and the patterns are simple to trace off. I use Vialene (the non iron on kind) for this. In the past I have either drafted my own patterns or used Burda Magazines but these Japanese designs are more my thing.

- My $6.00 top as I used linen furnishing samples.
- This one is two layers of merino knit. Same pattern, different look.
- This tunic has just one pattern piece.
On the subject of Japanese design, these designs from Issey Miyake are pretty inspiring.
I have great difficulty buying clothes. Not because I have a third arm which needs catering to, but because I have become increasingly concerned at the ethics of buying clothes.
Shopping stresses me out.
I can’t look at racks of clothes without thinking about where it was manufactured, working conditions, middlemen, and markups. Then of course the actual fabric bothers me: where was that produced? were harmful dyes used? The list goes on and on!

So I end up buying nothing, apart from the occasional NZ Made garment, and make the rest myself, using organic fabric when I can.
